Counter-Pattern Compendium

THE RESET's master registry of documented manipulative techniques and their counter-patterns — classified by potency, platform, cognitive bias, and operational status.

The Compendium is THE RESET's master registry of every documented manipulative technique — from mild nudges to coercive dark patterns. Each entry records the technique's mechanism, the cognitive biases it exploits, and the platforms where it has been observed in the wild. The registry currently holds techniques.

Every technique in the Compendium is assigned a Potency Level that governs how it is handled operationally:

PL-1Low — mild influence, easily recognized; counter-patterns approved for general deployment PL-2Moderate — measurable behavioral shift; counter-patterns require field-testing clearance PL-3Strong — significant manipulation risk; counter-patterns restricted to supervised environments PL-4Severe — coercive or exploitative; counter-patterns vault-only, Steward-authorised, two-person rule

Techniques feed directly into the Counter-Pattern Lab, where researchers breed targeted interventions. The cognitive models underlying each exploit are catalogued in the Bias Bank. For hierarchical navigation, see the Classification Browser; for a flat listing, see the Technique Index.

Restricted Handling. PL-3 and PL-4 techniques are documented under controlled-access protocols. Their counter-patterns are held in the Restricted Technique Vault, require two-person authorization, and are audited against the “Lines We Won’t Cross” doctrine on every engagement. Full procedures: SOP Library. Impact tracking: Harm & Wellbeing Index.
